Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan V has expressed his intention to continue and expand cooperation with Pakistan in various human development initiatives during a breakfast meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad.
The meeting, hosted by the prime minister, focused on strengthening long-standing partnerships between Pakistan and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in key social and development sectors.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Shehbaz Sharif welcomed Prince Rahim and appreciated his commitment to promoting peace, stability, and constructive global engagement.
The prime minister highlighted AKDN’s significant contributions in Pakistan, particularly in healthcare, education, rural development, climate resilience, renewable energy, and youth empowerment programmes.
Special emphasis was placed on AKDN’s work in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, where development initiatives have supported remote and vulnerable communities.
PM Shehbaz Sharif encouraged the expansion of collaboration with AKDN, particularly through institutions like Aga Khan University, which continues to play a major role in healthcare and higher education.
The prime minister also acknowledged AKDN’s efforts in climate resilience, describing it as a key partner in addressing environmental challenges in Pakistan’s northern regions.
During the meeting, PM Shehbaz expressed gratitude for Prince Rahim’s visit and said Pakistan would always consider him a valued partner in development and humanitarian cooperation.
He also paid tribute to the late Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, recognising his decades-long humanitarian services and close association with Pakistan.
Prince Rahim thanked the prime minister for the warm welcome and reiterated his commitment to strengthening cooperation in human development initiatives across Pakistan.
He is currently on his first official visit to Pakistan since becoming the 50th spiritual leader of the Ismaili community following the passing of his father last year.
