ISLAMABAD: Former NADRA chairman Tariq Malik has been included in a prestigious list of the world’s top 25 digital identity leaders by US-based technology company Okta.

The list, compiled by Okta Ventures, highlights global innovators, strategists, and public sector leaders who have contributed to advancing secure and seamless digital identity systems.

According to the company, the selected individuals are recognised for their work in improving digital transactions, strengthening identity systems, and addressing challenges in the digital era.

To mark the recognition, Tariq Malik was also featured on the Nasdaq billboard in Times Square, New York, alongside other global leaders in the field.

In his featured remarks, Malik emphasized that the success of digital identity systems depends not only on technology but also on strong governance and institutional independence.

He highlighted key global trends, including passwordless authentication, verifiable credentials, and the integration of identity systems with artificial intelligence and data governance.

Drawing on his experience at NADRA, he noted that public trust, accessibility, and transparency are essential for successful digital identity adoption.

Malik also pointed out that transformative identity systems often face resistance when they challenge established interests, making strong institutional support essential for sustainability.

He currently serves as a technical adviser to international organisations, including the World Bank’s Identification for Development programme, and has worked on digital governance projects across multiple regions.

Over the years, he has received several international recognitions for his contributions to digital governance and public sector innovation.
