May 2026 | By Azad News HD

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Karachi Zone has suspended two officers and registered a case against a private individual following a controversial raid in Karachi’s Sarafa Bazaar jewellery market.

According to officials, the action was taken after FIA Director General Dr Usman Anwar took notice of the incident and ordered a full inquiry to be completed within 48 hours.

An FIA spokesperson confirmed that Karachi Zone Director Muntazir Mehdi immediately ordered disciplinary and legal action against those involved in the incident.

Two FIA officers present at the scene were suspended, while a case was registered against a private individual accused of allegedly slapping a citizen during the raid.

Assistant Director Syed Ali Mardan Shah, who was heading the FIA Anti-Corruption Circle Karachi, was removed from his post and attached to headquarters, while Assistant Director Rabab Qazi was transferred to another wing.

A departmental inquiry has also been launched against all officials present during the operation to ensure a transparent and impartial investigation.

FIA officials stated that any misuse of authority, negligence, or unlawful conduct will not be tolerated and strict action will be taken without discrimination.

The agency reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and enforcement of the rule of law while maintaining public trust.

The raid, conducted on May 15 at a jewellery shop in Sarafa Bazaar, was reportedly linked to allegations of silver smuggling.

FIA initially claimed that 178 kilograms of silver were expected to be present, but only 15 kilograms were recovered from the shop.

Officials alleged that 163 kilograms of silver may have been removed during a disturbance created by traders and shopkeepers during the operation.

They further stated that some individuals attempted to obstruct the raid by gathering crowds, although the situation was handled with restraint by FIA personnel.

The FIA also claimed to have obtained digital evidence from suspects’ mobile phones allegedly linked to smuggling networks.

Conclusion

The incident has raised questions over enforcement procedures and accountability within investigative operations, prompting a high-level inquiry by FIA authorities.
