ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday facilitated the transfer of 22 Iranian crew members who were held aboard the container ship MV Touska, previously seized by the United States, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).

The Foreign Office stated that the crew members were flown to Pakistan last night and are expected to be handed over to Iranian authorities today as part of a humanitarian and diplomatic arrangement.

According to the FO, the evacuation was carried out as a confidence-building measure involving coordination between Pakistan, the United States, and Iran.

The statement added that the Iranian vessel will also be moved back into Pakistani territorial waters for return to its original owners after necessary repairs are completed.

Pakistan emphasized that such steps support regional stability and confidence-building efforts, and reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful resolution of disputes.

Meanwhile, tensions in the region remain high due to ongoing developments in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy shipping route, where disputes have disrupted maritime activity.

International concerns have grown over shipping security, energy supply stability, and escalating military rhetoric involving the United States and Iran in recent months.

Pakistan continues to position itself as a facilitator of dialogue and mediation, supporting efforts aimed at reducing tensions and ensuring safe maritime navigation in the region.
